County CivilCivil court cases are disputes or disagreements between parties. A party can file a dispute against one person, a business or multiple persons and/or businesses to recover damages or to protect property. County court handles cases in which damages sought are over $8,000 up to $50,000 excluding attorney’s fees, costs and interest. The one who files a complaint is called the Plaintiff, and the Defendant is the one who responds to the complaint made against them. When naming the Defendant(s) on all court documents, it’s important to name the parties correctly otherwise your claim could be rejected. If the Defendant is a business, you must name the correct legal entity. Who Can File A Civil Case?In order to be a party in a civil law case in Florida an individual must be 18 years of age or older.
