Once summoned, unless there is a statutory exemption or disqualification as listed below, the only authority who can excuse you from jury duty is the presiding Judge of the court to which you have been summoned. If you claim an optional exemption or mandatory disqualification listed below, you may be excused.

Statutory reasons to be excused or disqualified

  • 70 years of age or older and wish to be permanently excused
  • 70 years of age or older and wish to be excused for this term only
  • Not a legal resident of Collier County – driver’s license with new address required
  • Not a U.S. citizen – copy of alien card or visa
  • Convicted felon, civil rights not restored
  • Under prosecution for a crime
  • Expectant mother
  • Parent not employed full time who has custody of a child under 6 years of age
  • Full-time care giver caring for someone unable to care for him/her self
  • Full time student between 18-21 years of age
  • Full-time federal, state or local law enforcement or investigative personnel – Need badge number and agency
  • Any person who, because of physical or mental incapacity is permanently incapable of caring for himself or herself may be permanently excused from jury service upon request if the request is accompanied by a written statement to that effect from a licensed physician. Such requests are subject to review by the court. Physician statements must be emailed to juryhelp@collierclerk.com prior to consideration.

A person who is summoned and has reported as a prospective juror is exempt from jury service for a minimum period of one year.

All requests must be received no later than five (5) days prior to your term starting date. To receive notifications regarding the status of your request, you must log into the Jury Response Website and provide a valid email address and/or phone number that accepts text messages.
