Displaying The Shelter’s “Clothesline Project” this October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

We are proud to share that the Clerk’s Office will be partnering with The Shelter for Abused Women & Children to raise awareness about domestic violence and human trafficking. Throughout the Clerk’s offices, visitors will be able to see displays of The Shelter’s “Clothesline Project,” a therapeutic art initiative for survivors.

We are grateful for the work that The Shelter for Abused Women and Children does to prevent, protect against, and overcome domestic violence in Collier County. It is an honor to share the artwork of women and children who have grown beyond their circumstances.

The Shelter’s DVAM Clothesline Project will be displayed in several departments throughout the Clerk’s Office to maximize its visual impact for this month. This project features t-shirts designed by Shelter participants during their time in The Shelter. The aim is to raise awareness about the effects of violence and abuse, celebrate a survivor’s resilience, and offer a platform for them to bravely share their experiences and break the silence that often envelops them.

Each department of The Clerk’s Office will also be exhibiting a collection bin for the Shelter’s current needs of ongoing essentials. These essentials range from adult, children, pantry, and pet needs, so a wide range of items may be donated, including toiletries, bedding, clothing, baby formula, diapers, used cell phones, pet foods, and more. The complete list can be found at naplesshelter.org.

The Clerk’s Office plays a critical role in supporting victims of domestic abuse as a provider of legal support in filing protective orders, dissolution of marriage, and other court documents to break free from the control of their abusers. The Clerk’s Self-Help Center provides access to these services and includes a private space to ensure protection and confidentiality.
